April 24, 2008: Meshell Ndegeocello PDF Print E-mail

Salt Lake City, UT: Ten-time Grammy nominee Meshell Ndegeocello will be visiting Utah for the second time this summer to headline at Utah Pride 2008: Come Together on Saturday, June 7th at 8:30 pm in Washington Square.  Singer/songwriter and bass player, Ndegeocello (pronounced n-deh-GAY-o-chel-o) has nearly two decades under her belt as an uncompromising innovator in the worlds of rock, jazz, funk, soul and beyond. Her last visit was in July of 2006 for the Gallivan Center’s Twilight Concert Series.

Meshell’s 7th and latest album, The World Has Made Me The Man Of My Dreams (Decca) was released on September 25, 2007, and has received overwhelming critical acclaim. Channeled through orchestral soundscapes and an unapologetic punk aesthetic, Meshell questions the inevitable, inconceivable brutality of the world with an arsenal of familiar themes: faith, rage, despair, fleeting joy and nagging doubt. Ndegeocello continues to defy pigeonholing of any kind, but long term fans will appreciate the unapologetic return to pure funk workouts.

Ndegeocello picked up her latest Grammy nomination in 2008 in the Best Urban/Alternative Performance category for “Fantasy” from the compilation album, Interpretations: Celebrating The Music Of Earth, Wind & Fire (Stax).

Tickets are $10 and will be available online at www.utahpride.org on May 1st.
