About the Utah Pride Center
The Utah Pride Center’s board, staff, and volunteers are grateful for the community’s long-lasting dedication and support of the Center’s charitable mission. While the ebb and flow of the Center’s past has been challenging, we are proud to say that the Pride Center has finally achieved a sense of positive normalcy and calm in our quest for collective impact.
for believing in us.
for not giving up on us.
for standing with us
yesterday and today.
While we will always remember the lessons of our past, we will not let our past define us.
We stand before you today as a new and revitalized Center!
We’ve spent countless hours conducting research, holding focus groups, and identifying industry-wide best practices to help make the Utah Pride Center the best it could possibly be. The result of this board-driven strategic initiative was the redefining of our “Vision for Success” and further clarifying the “Mission we embrace” to achieve our vision. You will see, throughout the following pages and our conversations that the Center- our community’s Center- is on the right path to making the world a better place. Because in one of the most conservative states in the Union, the LGBTQ+ community of Utah is alive and thriving!
The Utah Pride Center saves lives and has been doing so for the past 23 years. In fact, the Utah Pride center was recently (and beautifully) referred to as a “living, breathing oasis for our community”, and we couldn’t agree more! This oasis wouldn’t be possible without the community’s support.
Thank you for keeping the Center alive and thriving.
Our Vision, Mission, and Objectives
“A thriving LGBTQ+ community in Utah.”
“Utah Pride unites, empowers and celebrates Utah’s diverse LGBTQ+ community by providing a safe and welcoming space for education, partnerships, services and events which advance our collective health, wellness and success.”
Provide educational opportunities for members of the LGBTQ+ and allied communities in an effort to promote a greater understanding of topics unique to Utah’s LGBTQ+ community.
The Utah Pride Center (formerly the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender Community Center of Utah) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, non-governmental, community organization that plays the vital role of providing information, programs, referrals, and services to the diverse LGBTQ+ community in Utah. Originally known as the Utah Stonewall Center, the Center opened in 1992 to provide a safe space for LGBTQ+ people to come together amid the conservative Utah cultural climate.
Within two years, the Center attracted many volunteers and raised enough money to hire a part-time staff person to grow the organization. Severe financial difficulties hit in 1996, rallying a coalition of community members to raise the money necessary to provide a more secure foundation for this much-needed organization.
Upon its reopening in 1997 as the Gay & Lesbian Community Center of Utah, the organization was located in two side-by-side buildings at 355 and 361 North 300 West in Salt Lake City and expanded its number of services, volunteers, and paid staff. The Center benefits from an extremely active volunteer base, including hundreds of volunteers for the annual Utah Pride Festival.
In 2006, the LGBTQ+ Community Center of Utah changed its name to the Utah Pride Center to be inclusive of all people who are concerned with and/or are impacted by LGBTQ+ issues.
In 2013, the Utah Pride Center moved to its new home in the heart of downtown Salt Lake City. The Center offers a wide array of programs and services for LGBTQ+ people of all ages.
