The Utah Pride Center Board of Directors initiates its Selection Committee each fall for the coming calendar year. Any applications submitted that aren’t during the Open Call performed by the Selection Committee will be retained and provided to the Selection Committee at its inception.

Board Governance
The Utah Pride Center Board of Directors is responsible for developing the Utah Pride Center’s vision and mission, establishing long term goals, raising funds, and assuring financial accountability. Board members are also being developed as leaders through their involvement in various community task forces and community coalitions.

Michael is passionate about community service, having served on the Utah Minority Association Board, Utah State Bar Young Lawyers Division Fit2Practice Committee, And Justice for All Community Center Continuing Legal Education Committee, and Multicultural Engagement for Utah civic engagement coalition. He currently serves as the Co-President of the Salt Lake Chapter of the Japanese American Citizens League.
In his spare time, he enjoys traveling, checking out new restaurants, and catching up on his Netflix watchlist.
Michael is excited to join the Utah Pride Center Board because he recognizes and greatly appreciates the value of the Pride Center and the many services it provides. His hope is that the Pride Center will continue to be a symbol of safety and inclusion for years to come.

Rachel Alder (she/her) is a victim advocate that has spent a majority of her social work career working with survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking. She focuses on Read More
Growing up, Rachel was on the Jr. Olympic water polo and swim team, leading up to becoming a dual sport collegiate athlete in southern California. She has a love for all things sports and the healing modality the water can be. Through research and experience Rachel was able to develop a program utilizing aquatic therapy for children who have experienced trauma, have autism, or sensory processing type disorders.
In addition as a keynote speaker she loves sharing her passion for equity, foster care, adoption, and transracial families. She enjoys speaking at many foster care and adoption related conferences and assists in training potential foster and adoptive families. If life and professional experience had to be summarized into one word, it is that her ultimate passion and dream job is that of being an advocate. She is honored and excited for the opportunity to do just that here at the Pride Center.
