1 to 5 Club: Peer Support/Discussion Group

February 25 @ 6:30 pm MST

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every week that begins at 6:30 pm on Thursday, repeating until 2021-02-26

Join us to chat, lean on and uplift each other, and share in the challenges and victories that affect us. We foster this as a safe, supportive, and affirming space geared toward the B+ community.
Online/Virtual Event Rules
Given the nature of online/virtual peer support, certain technical requirements apply in addition to our Peer Support Ground Rules (see below) to assure that we can maintain a safe, supportive, and affirming online/virtual space:
* All participants must have video enabled and audio capability for the duration of the event (muting while not speaking/sharing is okay).
* We may elect not to admit participants who have not responded as “Going” on this event page.
* We may elect not to admit participants who are more than ten minutes past the scheduled start-time, such as if heavy topics are being discussed (please reference the Content Warning below).
* Please send us an email (1to5Club@UtahPrideCenter.org) prior to the event if:
* you would like to inquire regarding accommodations related to different abilities.
* you have any other questions or concerns regarding the event or our expectations.
Peer Support Ground Rules
* This event is strictly limited to ages 18+ queer folx (LGBTQ+ identifying) and those who are curious/questioning.
* All participants joining will be asked to provide a name and pronouns that the facilitator (and others) may use during the event.
* This space is sex positive, body positive, and anti-racist.
* Seek peace and collaboration, not conflict.
* Think outside the box and beyond the binary.
* Seek first to listen and understand. Don’t hear what isn’t being said. Ask questions and approach conversations with curiosity.
* Confidentiality: Who you see and what you hear here, stays here.
* WAIT: Why Am I Talking? Reflect on your existing habits, such as the Step Up/Step Back model—if you don’t normally talk much, this is an opportunity to step up, whereas if you normally talk a lot, this is an opportunity to step back.
* Use “I” statements: Speak from your own experiences. Don’t speak for others.
* Don’t yuck my yum: Value diversity. A flavor you dislike can be someone else’s favorite.
* Ouch and educate: If someone says something that offends you, you have a right to speak up and feel safe in doing so. This is best done with an intention to educate.
* Give amnesty in advance: Practice respect and think well of each other. Assume the best, not the worst, of others.
* Take responsibility for your own learning, education, and birthing of your awareness.
* Dialogue (seek to listen and understand), not Debate (seek to convince).
* Whose shoes are missing? Consider who isn’t in the room, who isn’t being heard from, and what perspectives may be missing from the conversation. Strive to keep your privilege in check.
Content Warning

We Care About You
If you are thinking about self-harm or suicide, you deserve immediate help—please call the Trevor Lifeline at (866) 488-7386 or visit https://www.thetrevorproject.org/get-help-now/.
