Community Yin Yoga for Stress Reduction
September 30 @ 7:45 pm - 8:45 pm MDTFree
Community Yin Yoga for Stress Reduction is a donation-based class
Weekly on Thursdays 7:45pm to 8:45pm
Yin Yoga has roots in both China and India. Yin Yoga evolved from Taoist Yoga and the traditional Chinese medicine principles of meridians. Yin Yoga also evolved from the Hindu branch of yoga called Asana.
Yin Yoga is the opposite of Yang Yoga, which typically features more dynamic warming movements. In this Yin Yoga class, we will spend a few minutes in each posture and use a multitude of props (listed in materials section) to set ourselves up in a position we can hold without strain. The intention of this class is to slow down and settle into our bodies and minds.
What you’ll learn:
You’ll learn the traditional differences between Yin Yoga and Yang Yoga and gain a deeper connection to your mind and body. Exercises done in class can be put into practice in your day to day life.
What you’ll need for this class:
Props! The more the better! They don’t need to be yoga-specific; you can round things up that you already have at home. Ideas include: a yoga strap (piece of fabric, long sleeve shirt, belt), yoga blocks (hardcover books), pillows, blankets, yoga mat (a blanket or carpet can also work for Yin Yoga practice).
About the instructor:
The first time I tried Yin Yoga I actually didn’t like it at all. It was only after a prolonged knee injury that I learned how magical the practice of slowing down and tuning in with your mind and body can be. This forced lifestyle change led me to attend a 100-hour yin yoga training in Mexico through Annie Au Yoga and I later earned my 200-hour Hatha yoga training in Barcelona.
