June 25 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm MDT
An event every month that begins at 12:00 pm on day Last of the month, repeating until 2021-06-30
This 2 hour LGBTQIA+ Cultural Competency 101 training is open to all medical and mental health professionals.
The Utah Pride Center’s Youth, Family, & Education Department offers LGBTQIA+ cultural competency trainings to medical and mental health professionals. This training is 101 in understanding the experiences of LGBTQIA+ people, and how to work in our homes, places of work, congregations, and communities to improve the lives of members of the LGBTQIA+ community.
The 2 hour training covers basic language, current research and best practices related to the LGBTQIA+ community, privilege and daily experiences of LGBTQIA+ people including micro-aggressions, intersectionality and multiple marginalized statuses, the experiences of LGBTQIA+ youth and disparities in this group, and resources available in the community. We will also review ways to make your practice more inclusive to your LGBTQIA+ clients or patients.
After the training, participants will have increased familiarity, sensitivity, and understanding of cultural characteristics, history, values, belief systems, and behaviors of LGBTQIA+ individuals. Participants will know that cultural differences as well as similarities exist, and practice viewing these without assigning values (better or worse, right or wrong).
Registrants will receive a Zoom invite to the training 24 hours prior to the training.
