Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall held a press conference to announce HRC’s Municipality Equality Index Rating for Salt Lake City which received the highest rating possible at 100%. This is the first time Salt Lake City has received the highest score possible. Mayor Mendenhall attributes this achievement to an increase in health benefits to their employees, as well as an entire community of people who have been working for years to make Salt Lake City a more affirming place to live and work.

“The city began covering gender affirming surgery, lifesaving surgery, for our employees and their dependents. It’s a huge shift and we know it’s improving and saving lives.”

“The community has needed this to really feel safe and affirming living here. But it also benefits Salt Lake City and the State of Utah. By providing a safe and affirming place, as well as benefits, you’re making a place where businesses can come here and thrive and recruit talent to this state.”
