Happy Intersex Awareness Day!

Today, October 26th, is Intersex Awareness Day. Last week the Utah Pride Center raised the Intersex flag at the Center to recognize and celebrate the Intersex community.

This time last year, @courtney.skaggs, an educator and advocate, came all the way from San Diego to speak and we wanted to share their words again and join in on proclaiming that Intersex people are not invisible.

People with intersex traits have always existed, but there is more awareness now about the diversity of human bodies. People with intersex bodies sometimes face discrimination, including in healthcare settings, as early as infancy. According to the United Nations Free and Equal Campaign, estimates show 1.7% of babies are born with characteristics that don’t fit the typical definitions of male and female.

We, at the Utah Pride Center, want the Intersex community to know you are loved, you belong and are beautiful just the way you are.
