PRIDE STORY GARDEN

This original, one time Pride Story Garden is an interactive outdoor exhibit curated with national and local partners.  A limited number of guests will be allowed access to roam and find their way through this a-maze-ing exhibit that will tell Our History, Our Stories, Our Communities.

To ensure the safety of guests, date and time specific tickets will allow a limited number of attendees within the Story Garden at any one time.  All tickets must be purchase online and will not be available for purchase onsite at the Pride Story Garden.  Tickets will go on sale starting April 1st at www.utahpridecenter.org.

Any remaining proceeds from the ticket sales will be used to support the year-round lifesaving programs and services of the Utah Pride Center, who’s mission is to unite, empower and celebrate Utah’s diverse LGBTQ+ community by providing a safe and welcoming space for education, partnerships, services and  events which advance our collective health, wellness and success.

Time:    10:00am – 9:30pm
Place:   Washington Square (City & County Building), Salt Lake City, Utah
Cost:    $10-$25 Per Person, $10 per Garden Games Gift Bag (While Supplies Last)

Discount tickets are available during weekdays.  Friends & Families of 4 or groups of 20 can come together and save with Pride Packages.  All funds raised will be used to make 2021’s unique Pride Week Celebration possible and support the year-round lifesaving programs and services of the Utah Pride Center.

STORY GARDENS:

Twenty (20) unique gardens will be available for guests to enjoy, each with their own theme to highlight Our History, Our Stories, Our Communities.  Gardens will include educational, artistic, informational and interactive elements with limited physical contact.  Guest will have the option to purchase the “Garden Games Gift Bag” as well which includes toys and tools to enhance your Garden experience and partake in all interactive elements.

APPLICATIONS:

Compelling contributions that tell Our History, Our Stories, Our Communities are being sought to make for a memorable once in a lifetime experience.  Those wishing to participate as a contributor to the Pride Story Garden may apply online now.  Applications will be accepted from March 10-April 10th.   Space is limited and all applications will be considered in the jury selection process.  Those applicants with strong connections to the LGBTQ+ community and proposals that will enhance the quality of the Pride Story Garden will be given priority.

ART GARDEN APPLICATION

2021 PRIDE STORY GARDEN
“Our History, Our Stories, Our Communities”

Purpose: Submissions are being accepted for OUTDOOR visual art pieces that are two & three dimensional.  Artwork that highlights the talents of Utah’s LGBTQ+ artist and/or tells “Our History, Our Stories or Our Communities” of LGBTQ+ individuals living in Utah is preferred.

Location: Washington Square, 450 South State Street, Salt Lake City, Utah
This first time exhibit is estimated to be viewed by 15,000+ attendees.

Duration: 

June 1st or 2nd – Delivered to Washington Square

June 3rd thru 7th – On display in the Pride Story Garden (and possibly longer)

June 8th or later – Picked up from Washington Square (only later if show extended)

Submission Fee: $0.00

Compensation: Items are on loan only to the Utah Pride Center.  
No purchase, rental or compensation is offered or implied.
Each artist will be provided with two complimentary adult tickets to the Story Garden.

Security: Items will be enclosed in a fenced area with nightly security provided.

The Utah Pride Center does not take responsibility or any damage, natural or man-made that may occur while on loan.

Recognition: The creative artist will be acknowledged with contact information for those members of the public seeking additional information or request for purchase.

Exposure: 

60% of items will be outside in a garden setting, not covered from the elements.

40% of items will be outside under an open canopy, mostly, but not fully covered from the elements.

Installation: 

Outdoor items will be installed in a garden setting on the grass, or may be installed upon a pedestal or riser if provided by the artist.

Outdoor items under a canopy may be installed hanging from a cable, or may be installed upon a pedestal or riser if provided by the artist.

Connection: The Utah Pride Festival is meant to highlight the contributions of members of Utah’s LGBTQ+ community.  Artist and art with strong connections/involvement with this community are being sought with the hope of highlighting their talents.

COMMUNITY PARTNER APPLICATION

2021 PRIDE STORY GARDEN
“Our History, Our Stories, Our Communities”

Purpose: Pride in 2021 will not include a festival, parade, food booths, beverage sales, live entertainment, vendors, etc. due to the restrictions of Covid-19.  However, we will be hosting a new outdoor exhibit on Washington Square with a limited number of guest allowed to attend at a given time period over a five (5) day period.

The goal of the exhibit it to celebrate Pride is a Covid safe manner and to tell “Our History, Our Stories, Our Communities”.  Our community partners are part of our history, our stories and our communities in Utah and this is an opportunity for these groups to participate and share your history and your stories with thousands of Utahns in 2021.

Exhibit Dates: Thursday, June 3 – Monday, June 7, 2021

Personnel: Personnel are not allowed on the premises during the exhibit hours.

Capacity: Space is limited to sixteen (16) local organizations.

Space #1: A Pride Garden for larger Community Stakeholders with a designated area per Stakeholder and a capacity for a maximum of six (6) elements.

Space #2 A Pride Garden for smaller Grassroots Partners with a designated area per Grassroots organization and a capacity for a maximum of four (4) elements.

Elements: Elements are display items meant to tell your organization’s History, Stories or Connection to Utah’s LGBTQ+ Community.  For social distancing and limiting the number of people within the garden at any given time, visual elements are meant to be viewed from 6+ feet away and be viewed within a 15 second space of time.

Power: A power source within the Pride Gardens is not available.  Generators are not allowed. 

Fundraising: Onsite fundraising is not allowed.  Donation drop boxes may be permitted.

Grassroots organizations will share a portion of the Story Garden proceeds.

Purpose: Submissions are being accepted for written memorials in honor of those who have passed and changed/impacted the lives of Utahns, whether subtly or grand.  Selected memorials may be printed and displayed within the Pride Story Garden and beyond.

Requirements:

  5. Approval to publish memorial and photo 

Content: A diverse representation of Utah’s LGBTQ+ community with inspirational and compelling stories of people who have since passed, but impacted your/our lives and helped to shape Our History, Our Stories, Our Communities.  Selected memorials may be printed and displayed within the 2021 Pride Story Garden and beyond.

Process: All submissions will be reviewed by a Pride Planning Committee, jury selection of the most compelling stories, print preparation and publication in June 2021.  Written memorials may be edited for grammar, space limit and content.  Authors may be contacted for additional information, details, clarification, etc.  All materials, printed or digital, will become the property of the Utah Pride Center.

    Purpose: Pride in 2021 will not include a festival, parade, food vendors, beverage sales, live entertainment, vendors, etc. due to the restrictions of Covid-19.  However guest are invited to attend a one-time outdoor exhibit on Washington Square entitled: Pride Story Garden: Our History, Our Stories, Our Communities.  Guest will have date and time specific tickets to safely attend in limited numbers.  Afterwards guest will be invited via a “Pride Restaurant/Bar Guide” to support a local restaurant by enjoying food or beverages via inside dining or take-out.

    Distribution: At the Pride Story Garden on Washington Square, 450 South State Street, Salt Lake City, Utah. This first time exhibit is estimated to be viewed by 15,000+ attendees.

    Duration: 

    June 1-7, 2021 = Utah Pride Week Celebration

    June 3-7, 2021 = Pride Story Garden Show (Thursday-Monday)

    June 1-30, 2021 = National Pride Month

    Application Fee: $0.00

    Participation Fee: $100 (Payment Due upon notification of selection and confirmation.)
