Youth & Family Programs Calendar

Orientations

Orientations can be completed from 3:30 pm-4:30 pm on Tuesdays and Fridays for youth ages 10-14, and on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays for youth ages 14-20. Orientations for youth ages 2-10 can be obtained by scheduling an appointment with Jesse Fluetsch.

Orientation is a time for incoming youth and a member of the Youth & Family Programs Staff to meet and go over different groups, expectations for the space, and resources offered by the Utah Pride Center.

Event Descriptions

Queer Prom, Youth Pride. and Masqueerade

The purpose of these dances, open to ages 14-20, is to provide a safe space for youth to experience an alternative to traditional school dances where they may feel judged or isolated for simply expressing themselves.

Queer Prom, held in April, and MasQueerade, held in December, mirror school formals, while Youth Pride is an outdoor dance party on the Pride Festival Grounds, acting as a kick o for Pride.

Qpid's Ball & Homocoming

The purpose of these dances, open to ages 10-14, is to provide a safe space for youth to experience an alternative to traditional school dances where they may feel judged or isolated for simply expressing themselves.

Parent & Caregiver Lounge

The Parent & Caregiver Lounge is held concurrently with our large youth events. We partner with family-centric organizations to host a space for parents and caregivers to connect with one another, seek support, and share resources.

The first annual GSA & Educators Conference will be held on Saturday, September 21st, 2019, at East High School (840 S 1300 E, SLC, UT). The conference will feature workshops for students & GSAs, teachers & administrators and community members. Lunch will be provided. The conference goes from 10AM to 3PM. Registration opens at 9am. More information and registration can be found on the GSA & Educators conference page.

Programs for Ages 2 to 10

Families Like Ours

FLO is a playgroup that meets weekly on Saturdays for youth ages 2-10 and their families. Whether you have two moms, a single gay dad, a transgender kid, or a queer older sibling, your family is welcome at Families Like Ours. An orientation is required, and can be scheduled with Jesse Fluetsch at jessefluetsch@utahpridecenter.org

Programs for Ages 10 to 14

Annual Events

Drop In

Drop-in is a time for youth to access the space without attending an orientation. Our drop-in space includes a kitchen and snacks, a mini-cyber center, TV and games, library, and an exchange closet and glam area. Drop-in time for the 14-20 age group is from 3:00 pm-5:00 pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Drop-in time for the 10-14 age group is from 3:00 pm-6:00 pm on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Social Time

An unstructured social time occurs after regular programs Mondays-Fridays, and is open to youth who have completed orientation. While staff is on the floor, this is a time for youth to socialize with each other after the completion of programs.

Youth Support Group

YSG is a peer-led support group that meets weekly. There are two sessions: the 14-20 age group meets from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and the 10-14 age group meets from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. An orientation is required.

Youth Activity Night

YAN is a social group. We do a variety of activities, like game nights, craft nights, and speaker nights. The 14-20 age group meets from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m, and the 10-14 age group meets from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. An orientation is required.

YPC is a planning group that meets weekly on Wednesdays. This group works on our large events, such as Queer Prom and MasQueerade. Additionally, YPC contributes to planning for the Youth Booth at the Pride Festival. An orientation is required.

Youth Activity Night

Schools

FAM Educator Social

ES is a group for educators that meets monthly on the second Thursday. In collaboration with Friends, Allies, & Mentors of the LGBTQ+ Community (FAM), the Educator Social is a gathering for teachers, administrators, and other school professionals to seek support, share resources, and build community around supporting LGBTQ+ students.Family

Parents & Caregivers

Parent & Caregiver Support Group

PCSG is a peer-led support group that meets weekly on Tuesdays from 6:00pm-7:30pm. It is open to all parents and caregivers of LGBTQ+ youth.

Building Families Group

BF is a peer-led prenatal and postpartum support group that meets weekly on Mondays. It is open to LGBTQ+ parents who are pregnant, non-gestational parents, or parents of children 0-2. Our purpose is to provide a space for parents to find resources, build their support network, and talk about the joys and challenges of being LGBTQ+ and pregnant or parenting. Meets on Mondays from 6-7:30p.
