[Salt Lake City, UT – November 1, 2021] – After a long year of hearing continued debate around transgender, non-binary and gender non-conforming rights in Utah, the Utah Pride Center is saying “We Will Not Be Silent,” the theme of the 2021 GenderEvolution Conference happening November 13th.
Genderevolution, Utah’s only gender conference was started by TransAction back in 2009 to create a space for the transgender, non-binary and gender expansive community to socialize and offer lifesaving resources and opportunities to educate themselves and those that love, teach, and serve our population. GenderEvolution is now in its 13th year and will be hosting some amazing keynote speakers including Gavin Grimm and Kyle Lukoff. They’ll be presenting on topics related to gender nuanced issues and gender diverse communities.
“We are here to make sure that our community has a space to learn, educate, support, and meet other transgender, non-binary and gender creative people that understand them and their lived experiences. We would also like people to better understand the harmful and sometimes fatal implications of being your true self in a world that does not accept you,” said Nick Arteaga, (he,him, they, them) Adult Programs Manager at the Utah Pride Center.
Genderevolution is also a space to celebrate the positive experiences and accomplishments of our trans, nonbinary and gender nonconforming communities. As a community organization with a huge emphasis on suicide prevention, the Utah Pride Center understands the value in meeting folx where they are and being visible and holding space for marginalized people.
